Steel tension springs and plates balance the two arms, so the lamp stays wherever it is put, with the small settle of a real spring.
The principle, in proportion. Solid: gravity pulling the arm down. Dashed: a spring hooked above the pivot pulling it up. Mirror images at every angle, so they cancel, and the arm has no preferred position.

A standard E27 socket keeps the choice of light open. Mulampy recommends a retrofit LED at 2700 K; the dial runs past that, so you can see why.
Replaceable E27 retrofit LEDs, 6 to 10 W. The light source is the owner's choice and can change as lighting does.
Interchangeable base
One lamp, three stands.
The base fixture can be exchanged, so the same balanced arm works as a clamp, a table lamp or a floor lamp. Two finishes.
